El Salto Rope Swing
Our favorite local secret: a Tarzan-style rope swing over a turquoise jungle pool on the Río Fortuna, just a 10-minute walk from the hostel. Grab the rope, swing out, and drop into the cool water below while little waterfalls cascade around you. It's completely free and a guest favorite for cooling off and meeting other travelers. The current can be strong, so swing and swim with care.
La Fortuna Central Park
The leafy heart of town, a 7-minute walk away. Parque Central sits right below the church with Arenal Volcano framed behind it. Grab a coffee, people-watch, and use it as your launch pad into downtown’s sodas, bars, and shops. The classic spot to feel the laid-back rhythm of La Fortuna.
Arenal Volcano National Park
Costa Rica's most iconic volcano at 1,633 meters. Massive cone towering above the rainforest with trails ranging from easy to challenging. The 1968 lava flow trail is legendary. Day hikes reward you with volcanic vistas, wildlife spotting (howler monkeys, sloths, toucans), and that surreal feeling of walking on active geology. Night hikes give you a shot at seeing the volcano glow after sunset.
La Fortuna Waterfall / Catarata Río Fortuna
One of Costa Rica's most stunning waterfalls. Seventy meters of pure water power crashing into a crystal-clear pool perfect for swimming. About 500 steps down through rainforest to reach it—worth every step. Swim at the base, sunbathe on the rocks, and let the jungle soundtrack surround you. Less crowded early morning. A must-do during your stay.
Tabacón Hot Springs
Natural hot springs heated by Arenal's geothermal activity. Lush gardens, multiple thermal pools at varying temperatures, and a riverside soak under the jungle canopy. Perfect for easing sore muscles after a volcano hike. We run an evening hot springs trip so you can watch the stars come out from the warm water—pure relaxation in the rainforest.
Mistico Hanging Bridges
Suspension bridges through the rainforest canopy giving you eye-level views of wildlife and jungle layers. Multiple bridges at different heights over rivers and valleys.
